If Sir David Attenborough Restored Vintage Toys

Marty's Matchbox Makeovers

Albeit these Matchbox models are the ones my dad would have played with, it's still entertaining to watch Marty giving them a makeover, turning them from a well-loved and abundantly played toy to something fresh out of the box — he sounds like the Sir David Attenborough of vintage toy restoration. It tempts me to restore my old model cars — but maybe I'll wait until my kids are done playing with them.

As a child I had several Matchbox cars, this one was one of my favourites. The BP colours of green and yellow compliment this vehicle perfectly. The red dome light and rear hook add visual balance to this tidy looking model. I was unable to source any high quality stickers for this project and so had to paint a white square area on each side of the body on which to stick a water slide transfer. This looks almost perfect with the naked eye, but with the macro imaging of my camera there are flaws that can be seen. For this reason, this restoration falls short of my usual high standard. I may redo it one day if good stickers ever become available.
