The Dictionary of Numbers Chrome plug-i takes absurdly large numbers that would have otherwise no meaning to us and puts them in context so that they're more easily understood. For example, it turns "300,000 acres" into "≈ the area of Los Angeles" and "315 million people" into "≈ the population of the United States". Great idea, I wish this also came as a neat little website I could access, although the functionality of the plug-in is quite versatile.

Dictionary of Numbers is an award-winning Google Chrome extension that tries to make sense of numbers you encounter on the web by giving you a description of that number in human terms. Like a dictionary describes words you don't know in terms you do, Dictionary of Numbers puts quantities you're unfamiliar with in terms you can understand. Because "8 million people" means nothing, but "population of New York City" means everything.
