As this article on Gizmodo explains, while the Big Mac you're holding in your hands and the one you see in the billboards look nothing alike, they are (surprisingly) using the same ingredients. The difference is in the photographic tricks involved to make the advertised one look far, far more appealing than the mass produced blob you're holding.
