Website Aqua-Velvet has put together this beautiful gallery of black-and-white photos taken by LIFE photographer Allan Grant (1918-2008) from the set of the 1950 movie Destination Moon.

Remarkably, Destination Moon was the first science fiction film which tried to guess what space travel would be like and, as a result, the problems humanity would face and the technology they would need to accomplish the task.
