Don't Blame Sara Palin or the Tea Party for the Gifford Shootings: Blame Guns

Ah, politics. After the recent shooting of congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, people were quick to jump to the conclusion that what Jared Lee Loughner did was as a result of Sarah Palin's gun-ho approach to politics. Clarence W. Dupnik, Pima county sheriff, told Fox News that the "the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country" has contributed to the tragedy. He stated that right-wingers "try to inflame the public 24 hours a day" with "rhetoric about hatred, mistrust, paranoia of how government operates".

Not everyone, however, seems to think Ms. Palin or SarahPAC are to blame for what happened. According to Now Toronto's Susan G. Cole, the real culprit is the Second Amendment and lax gun control:

Loughner is a product of gun culture and so is Palin. America's problem is not its politicians, it's all about guns and the Second Amendment. The right to own guns is deeply embedded in American life. There is no process in place to prevent unhinged characters like Loughner from packing and there won't be any until the National Rifle Association and its trigger-happy gang lose their influence and the constitution's Second Amendment is reconsidered.
