Oh Shit: We're Running Out of Chocolate

In the future, chocoholics might have to work quite a bit harder to pay for their fix. Reportedly, at the rate we're eating chocolate, we're going to run out in about twenty-years. This means chocolate will turn into an extremely rare commodity.

Part of the reason for this shortage is that cocoa is notoriously difficult to harvest, making African growers, who earn 80 cents a day, less interested in growing it versus more profitable crops.

According to John Mason, executive director and founder of the Ghana-based Nature Conservation Research Council:

"In 20 years chocolate will be like caviar. It will become so rare and so expensive that the average Joe just won't be able to afford it."

Time to start stockpiling those Mars bars.
