Crazy Space-Saving Designs for the Homes of the Future

In the movie The Fifth Element, when Bruce Willis gets up from his bed, the bed immediately retracted into the wall making space for something else. As absurd as that may have looked to us then, the home of the future may not be that different. In this article by Charlie Sorrel on Wired, he argues that if the home of the future will be nothing more than a storage-closet for humans, even finding space for food could prove to be tricky. This is the challenge presented by the Electrolux Design Lab contest this year, which asked 1300 industrial designers to come up with home appliances for a future of megacities.
