Encouraging proper behaviour on Tokyo's subways isn't something recent, as we were originally led to believe.

PinkTentacle has put together a gallery of a few manner posters that appeared in the Tokyo subways between 1976 and 1982. The gallery comes complete with translations and explanations, in case we didn't understand Japanese -- or their weird but fascinating culture.
