The Heathkit Hero Robots

Of all the educational and personal robots created during the 1980's the Heathkit HERO robots were by far the most successful and most popular. The HEROs were completely self-contained robots that could interact with the user and its environment. It was considered excellent for learning the components and circuitry of robots, as well as artificial intelligence.
