Rome bans horse-drawn carriages

Animal rights activists have finally obtained a ban on horse-drawn carriages in Rome's historic downtown after a series of accidents. Last year, a horse had to be put down for breaking its leg when a truck hit the animal near the Colosseum. Electrically-powered vintage cars will replace the carriages, the latter being confined to Rome's public parks.
