From the Rekimoto website, comes this piece on appliances that require you to smile in order to use them. The idea is that since it is difficult to make yourself happy, especially when you live on your own, the appliances would encourage you to have a better mood.
This system is mainly designed for people living in alone who have difficulty to realize when they are in low spirits and/or to make themselves smile.
