Canadian photographer David Johnson has this mind-blowing gallery of long exposures of fireworks. David, who kindly permitted the above image to appear here, explains:
I would start extremely out of focus when the fireworks were shot up in the air. The second I heard an explosion, I'd quickly refocus so the tails of each light would converge into a fine point.
