Anarchogeek takes us through Twitter's past to discover why people start putting @ at the beginning of people's names instead of at the end as in an email address.
To start with the @ was used in twitter as a kind of checkin, to say where you are. The very first was by Ev, checking in to herbivore to tell us he's getting a breakfast burrito. Twitter was only 4 days old when this convention started.
Please enter your comment below. Hit Return twice (leaving a completely blank line) between paragraphs.
Use for bold and for italic . All other HTML commands will be stripped.
Your comment is (almost) immediately placed online as soon as you hit 'Post'.
Specifying an email address is optional. In the interests of your own privacy, CoN discourages you from doing so. Further, think twice about revealing any other personal information including telephone number, real name, exact address or blood type.
