Website The Arabist points to a warning being sent to the career centres of various universities: anyone interested in applying for US Federal jobs should be aware that since the documents released online by WikiLeaks are still considered classified, anyone found during a background investigation to have linked to or commented about any of the documents on Facebook or Twitter "would call into question [the student's] ability to deal with confidential information, which is part of most positions with the federal government".
This shouldn't strike anyone as surprising. According to the Broward Palm Beach New Times, using a program called "Social Media Monitoring and Situational Awareness Initiative," US Federal government agencies monitor Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and other social media sites for dangerous words and phrases such as militia, Iraq, body scanner, cloud, smart and pork.
